How should college students deal with breakups?

  • Breakups in relationships are just a part of life. After all, not all relationships are meant to last forever. This is also true for relationships in college life. Being adults, college students can't help but choose their partners on college campuses if they get the chance to do so.

Breakups in college usually have drastic effects on a student's academic performance, social life, and extracurricular activities. This is because many students who are overly attached with their partners feel lonely, choose to withdraw themselves socially for a while. Such withdrawal allows them to get over it. By the time they get over it, they realize that they have lost a great number of opportunities. Hence, social withdrawal from breakups actually does more harm than good. Not only do students suffering from a broken relationship skip their coursework assignment submissions but also skip many quizzes. This results into a poor grade, leading to a poor final GPA (Grade Point Average). The best way to deal with breakup is to get involved in things that would keep the mind busy. For instance, such students can always begin volunteering for a cause, or perhaps they can lead a social initiative.

If nothing else works, visiting the college psychological counselors could help a lot. They will provide just the right amount of counseling that is requires, so as to make a student feel emotionally stable again.
