A Shortcut to a Healthy Mind

  • People usually settle into one or more routines in their life and usually they become comfortable in the routine(s) which might well become one of their set habits. And it is probably because they are so comfortable doing it that it becomes a normal part of their life.     However, certain routines can become so stiff and inflexible that they can result in a dull monotonous life with the same recurring things and events ruling each and every day. The routine might have said to have developed into a bad habit and can be a source of anxiety for the individual concerned. Thoughts might well then turn to making the routine less rigid or even breaking out of it altogether!

    The first step is to identify the routine or bad habit. But, once you have done that, do not take any big steps or try to make major changes because this can be difficult to do and could well result in failing to be effective, and this could damage your morale and curb your motivation. What I have found when I examined myself, is that it is best, especially in the beginning, to make small and gradual changes to your routine. Some people would term these as 'baby steps'.

    For example, a while back, I was stuck in a habit whereby I used my car to go everywhere, even places difficult to access by car and where there was little or no parking, and even if there was some available it was very expensive.
